Dear Editor:
This letter is to address the pathetic, small corner coverage for the girls’ high school swim team success.
They won the 3A CONFERENCE TITLE and are UNDEFEATED. I think they deserve at least half the page, but no, it’s all about the football team (who are not undefeated might I add). Two years ago, the high school girls swim team were conference champs and got a good half page of coverage, why not now or anymore? The Powell Tribune social media accounts don’t even mention their conference championship, yet they did for football and volleyball. If they win state will they get at least a half page, maybe even the whole page?
Some Powell folks might be interested to know how their money was spent when donated to the Athletic Roundtable. The swim team was told at the beginning of the season that the school district would NOT be providing any meals on away trips, yet somehow the football team was provided brand new uniforms; we were told it was due to budget cuts. That may be true, but that doesn’t add up; new uniforms for “certain sports,” but only if you provide your own meal. It appears that certain sports or even genders are more important than others.
Sincerely,
Kristy Paterson
