Supplementing the community

Tucked into a little corner of downtown Powell, the Mountain Rose Wellness Center & Store operated by Kathy Gaa, doctor of naturopathic medicine, has been known for providing relief for migraines and back pain.

Recently she opened a new store next to Mountain Rose at 116 N. Bent St., which is open exclusively on Fridays, noon-5:30 p.m. There she offers a free service — muscle tests — a method of determining what supplements your body may need.

“I really just want to give back to the community and this is one of the ways that I feel I can help people,” Gaa said.

She aids the customer in setting up a direct script through Optimal Health Systems, and can provide advice on what supplements will be most beneficial, although she cannot diagnose anything.

However, that does not limit her amount of care to anyone who walks through the door and rings the bell.

“Say someone brings in half a dozen supplements, and they wonder why they aren’t working. They can come in and have a muscle test [free of charge],” Gaa said. “And of course have [a complimentary coffee and a slice of cheesecake]… I will work with them for as long as I can.”
