Dear editor:
This is a belated congratulation to Gabby Patterson for her column on the new book policy. She so astutely points out the facts that so many adults refuse to acknowledge. All of which relate to ignoring the realities of this world we live in.
As she so accurately points out, it is all readily accessible. This is their world and we adults need to prepare them for it, not by trying to hide what we do not understand or disapprove of. We need to be creating formats with each other, young and old, that allow for meaningful conversation — and books represent one such opportunity. I do hope the committee has read and heard this young woman’s thoughtful plea. Remember ignore is the root word for ignorance.
