Shoot Like a Woman: ‘A Ten-Year Retrospective’ opens Thursday at Plaza Diane

Plaza Diane is celebrating the opening of a new exhibit Thursday centered on a group of female nature photographers.

The opening reception for the Shoot Like a Woman exhibit is 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday.

At the reception there will be refreshments and treats while having a chance to meet the photographers, catch up with friends and enjoy artwork. The exhibit will stay in the Plaza Diane Gallery until Feb. 10.

The gallery is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Exhibitors include Jennifer Litterer-Trevino, Michelle Milner, Kathy Lichtendahl, Kathy Morris, Christine Garceau, Heather Cole, Randi Slaughter and Dawn Garrison.

Shoot Like a Woman (SLaW) was created as a way for female nature photographers from the Big Horn Basin to explore the surrounding environment and its inhabitants in a safe and social setting. The group’s first official outing took place in January 2014, with six women hiking to Bridal Veil Falls in the Clarks Fork Canyon. The group grew to its self-imposed limit of 10 members, enjoying monthly adventures in the unique landscape that makes up the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Currently there are eight active members, four of whom were part of the inaugural outing a decade ago. All are represented in the exhibit.

These images are a small sampling of the hundreds of photographs each of the women has captured on excursions in what is, essentially, the backyard. They represent a love of subject and technique as well as a desire to share that love with a greater audience.
