‘Shadows, Blessings and Signs’ show opens Thursday at Plaza Diane

Posted

Karyne Dunbar’s artwork will be featured in a show titled “Shadows, Blessings and Signs” at Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts. The show opens with a reception from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the plaza’s gallery, located at 211 N. Bent St. in Powell.

“A dream and an encounter with an Arapaho elder led me to accept crow and raven as my artistic spirit guides,” Dunbar said in an artist statement. “Their mythic presence allows me to create visual parables.”

Dunbar has spent a lifetime as artist, art educator and art advocate. She is the owner of the commission-free Art Shelter Gallery in Shell. For nearly 30 years, she has sponsored art events in her isolated community.

Dunbar’s work is in collections across the United States, Canada and Europe. The president of Ireland presented her work to the permanent collection of the Granuaille Center in County Mayo.

Dunbar has exhibited in Athens, Greece, and New Grange, Ireland. She was a recipient of the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award in 2018.

Dunbar will be at Thursday evening’s opening. “Shadows, Blessings and Signs” will remain on display at Plaza Diane until Nov. 20 (through Sample the Seasons).
