September happenings at the library

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month. This is the time of year when the Park County Libraries like to remind everyone if they don’t have a library card to make sure to stop by and get one. September is filled with lots of great activities reminding us why the library is such a wonderful place and a library card is the best card to have. In celebration of Library Card Sign Up Month, the Powell Library will be adding a couple more open hours to make it even easier to enjoy the library. The new hours will start Sept. 19 and we will be open Monday-Thursday 9-6 p.m., Friday 9-5 p.m. and Saturday 9-1 p.m.

Come to the Powell Library on Thursday,  Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., for Adult Trivia Night, join us for a fun and challenging evening.

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”. Stop by the circulation desk at the library to get a copy of the book.

Please join us on Thursday, Sept. 8 and 29 at 7 p.m. for our Wellness Series Presentations. Our first discussion will be focused on hierarchy of needs and second discussion on stress management.

Adults, join us for a fun candle making craft project. Please sign up in advance to attend on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., join us at the Powell Library for an amazing performance by Musician Kerry Grombacher. He is a singer, songwriter and cowboy poet who will perform contemporary folk and western music in addition to fascinating storytelling.

There will be tons of fun activities for teens at the Powell Library. Join us every Friday at 1 p.m. for Movie and a Game. Every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. will be a fun after school activity for teens. Join us Sept. 7 for Perler beads, Sept. 14 for board games, Sept. 21 for collage craft and Sept. 28 for duct tape craft.

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children. Kids in third to 12th grade can sign up for a quilling art class on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. Participants will learn the art of creating design by rolling paper strips. Join Ms. Renee every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby & Toddler Time and every Tuesday & Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time. Kids come by on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for Lego Club, and have fun building a Lego Challenge. Kids can sign up to build a hobbit or fairy house on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Stop by the library to learn more about this program.

In September, stop by on Saturday, Sept. 10 from
10 a.m.-1 p.m. and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Powell Library Friends Book Sale. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library.

If you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library, then please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation and would love to have the Powell community well represented. The foundation only meets a few times a year and we can even meet in the Powell Library. If interested in learning more and want to join, contact Karen Horner 527-1881 and help strengthen the library.
