Park County Search and Rescue is hosting an open house from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the unit’s new building in Cody.

The street in front of the hall, located at 721 15th St., will be closed for the event. Burgers, hotdogs, and sodas will be served from noon until 3 p.m., with a formal dedication of the new building at 1 p.m.

“Please bring your family and allow Park County Search and Rescue to say thank you for the community it has the privilege of serving,” the Park County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The local search and rescue team was established in 1970 under the direction of then-Sheriff Harley Kinkade and the expertise of coordinator Kirk Waggoner. This year, the organization is marking its 50th anniversary.

“An organization based solely on the effort of volunteers can only be as great as the community providing said volunteers. PCSAR currently has over 30 members and a waiting list, proving that the community supporting this team is far above standard,” the sheriff’s office said.
