To the editor,
I wanted to send a public note to thank Greg Borcher for his years of service to the Park County School District #1 Board of Trustees. Although my school board race was not successful, I worked hard and learned a lot about how our local elections work and got to know some wonderful school administrators and teachers. I will remain active in attending meetings, getting more involved in committees and might just try to run again in the next round. I still feel that I have something to contribute to our school district and look forward to talking to anyone who wants to join me in keeping our schools the best they can be. I agree wholeheartedly with everything that Greg said.
In Greg’s letter, he stated that many people are believing what they read on the internet and taking it as truth. There was a sign put up near one of our schools that said, “Save Our Kids”, which was disturbing to me. What are our kids needing saved from? The teachers are not “indoctrinating” the kids with false information, the librarians are not pushing “sexualized” books, and most certainly LGBTQ kids are not attacking girls in the locker rooms. The teachers, librarians and administrators are the professionals here – they have been educated and trained to protect our kids, teach them and prepare them to embrace the world beyond our little community.
Although the local school board decides many policies and procedures, they still must follow rules set out by our Wyoming Legislature and the Wyoming High School Athletics Association as well as the Wyoming School Board Association. All our kids deserve equal treatment, and the school staff are doing their best to make sure every child gets the very best education in a safe and secure manner. I applaud our teachers for showing up every day.
Again, thank you for your support.
