Richard E. Myrick died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Powell Valley Care Center. He was 84.

Richard was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Menomonie, Wis., to Leslie James and Ethel Rose (Hoffman) Myrick.

He graduated from Powell High School in 1945 and later attended the University of Wyoming, where he received his degree in civil engineering.

On Sept. 9, 1952, he married Ora Gay Davis in Denver. The couple lived in San Jose, Calif., Cheyenne, Powell and Nampa, Idaho. They later returned to Powell.

Richard served with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and made his career as a civil engineer, PE, LS.

He assisted with many improvements throughout the state of Wyoming while working for the highway department. He also designed and assisted with projects and public accesses while working for the Wyoming Game and Fish. He designed and followed through on numerous projects, improvements and infrastructures during the many years he worked for the city of Powell.

For the city of Powell, Richard was able to bring the engineering department’s surveying, design and everyday function into the computer age with the addition of the new IBM PC computer system.

He attended the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell and also was part of the American Legion and Soroptimists. He was an avid fly fisherman, enjoyed being part of the bowling league, coached and mentored many young men and enjoyed reading and computers.

He coached baseball at all levels, including American Legion baseball for Powell.

Many people remember Dick for the various types and colors of pipes that he smoked.

He was a great husband and father.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a son, Mitchell Myrick.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ora Gay; sons Kelly (Suzie) Myrick and Wade (Karen) Myrick, all of Powell; daughter Susan Myrick of Caldwell, Idaho; sister Patricia Canino; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. George Pasek officiating.

Cremation has taken place and burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell at a later date.
