{gallery}02_18_10/phswrestling{/gallery}Jessee Craig makes the first move in his match with Worland's Jared Leithead last week. The two 119 pounders will likely meet again this weekend during the West Regional Tournament in Jackson as the Powell Panthers try for their third consecutive regional championship. Tribune photo by Don Amend It's all been practice so far as the Powell Panther wrestlers head for Jackson for the West Regional tournament.Twenty-five wrestlers will take the mats for the Panthers during the two-day event, vying for medals, but more importantly, for spots in the Wyoming State Finals as the Panthers go for their third straight state team title. Powell will have all weight classes filled and will enter two wrestlers in all but three weights.

Fourteen of the 25 tasted regional competition last year, and all 14 finished in the top eight to earn trips to state.

Among the 14 are four defending regional champions, seniors Auston Carter and Monte Nickles and junior Colt Nix and sophomore Randy Andrews. Three more, Olie Olson, Jimmy Seckman and Joe Lujan wrestled in the finals and finished second and Zach Thiel finished fourth.

Luke Wozney, Cole Kary, Beau Williams, Clay Saldana, Kurt Bullinger, Danny Harris and Trevor Griffeth all competed at regionals last year as well.

Two more wrestlers, senior Trent Gillett and junior Jessee Craig, missed last year's regional due to injury, but bring post-season experience from 2008 to the competition.

Newcomers to regional competition include junior Cody Kisgen, sophomores Charles Wittick, Robert Friday, Drew Feller and Waylon Bays; and freshmen Dylan Rood, Mike Mundy and Spencer Shultz.

The Panthers principal competition in the regional will come from Worland, a team that is very strong in the lighter weights. Lander returns to the West this year after several years in the East Regional, and will bring some strong individuals to the tournament. Cody, Jackson and Mountain View round out the competition along with Pinedale, which began a wrestling program this year. Another change from last year is the absence of the Kemmerer Rangers, who were reclassified into the 2A ranks this year.
