Dear Editor,
We believe in freedom of speech and appreciate Kevin Killough’s article about it in the May 10 Tribune.
Believing in freedom of speech means that everyone can express their own opinion at any time. Afterall, isn’t it important to hear both sides of an argument, even if you have already made up your mind to disagree?
However, it seems that the Democrats/Liberals, or whatever you want to call them, don’t want anyone to speak who has a difference of opinion. We have experienced that with friends who are definitely on the liberal side of the coin. They essentially told us to shut up as they changed the subject. They started the political conversation, not us.
Freedom of speech is colorblind. Everyone in this country has a right to it. Yet, our present administration is trying to point a finger everyday at who is to blame for our present problems. And, it certainly isn’t themselves. Remember, when you point a finger at someone you have three fingers and a thumb pointing back at you.
Freedom of speech is just that, freedom to talk but not to destroy or harm, though many people have chosen to add that to the definition. Again, those participating in riots that are destructive and harmful are only making themselves look bad.
How do you get equality or equity when you can’t give it?
We have no idea if Elon Musk is going to change things on Twitter but we certainly hope so.
We are all human beings who deserve respect and the freedoms that our Constitution gives us. Abusing the privilege does nothing for anyone except create hatred and distrust. And, we are headed down that road at a very fast pace!
