Radio station outage a violation

Posted

Dear editor:

On the evening of July 14, shortly after 11 p.m., while Connie Willis was introducing her guest on Coast to Coast AM, KODI fell silent, broadcasting what is called a “dead carrier,” which has continued until the writing of this email on Sunday morning. Beyond being a waste of electrical power, similar to turning on the furnace with the AC running, this is a violation of Federal Communications Commission rules requiring the transmission of a “legal ID” at the top of each hour. Are residents within the signals of KODI’s AM transmitter and FM translators left to believe that there are no employees of  Big Horn Radio Network or Legend Communications of Wyoming, LLC, who listen to the station and have access to and knowledge of the audio chain of KODI that could have, during an outage of over 35 hours, solved this recurrent problem? This should be considered a submission to their public service file for consideration when their station license comes up for renewal.
