PVHC hosting breast cancer awareness event

Powell Valley Healthcare is hosting a breast cancer awareness event at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the grassy area east of the main clinic building.

The public event includes dinner choices of broccoli and cheese soup or chili as well as cornbread and cinnamon rolls. PVHC medical providers and radiology staff will provide brief presentations on breast cancer prevention and treatment. Breast cancer survivors and fighters are specifically invited to attend and share their journey through this difficult disease.

“We want to recognize and celebrate people in our community and their loved ones who are battling breast cancer and also share important prevention and treatment information,” said Dr. Carletta Collins.

Collins, who specializes in oncology and hematology, will be presenting at the event. Radiology staff will also share information about mammography and breast imaging and advancements available at and coming to Powell Valley Healthcare, including breast MRI and 3D mammography.

Breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among women in the United States and health officials say early detection is very important for preventing serious complications from the disease.
