Dear editor:
Thank you for your opinion letter on Thursday, Dec. 8. It is a shame that politics in this country has become so divisive. Years ago two people with differing opinions could still have a conversation trying to understand where each is coming from. Now, only one side speaks and then walks away. Even pretending to listen has gone by the wayside.
If “in your face politics” is a problem then there are a lot of people who need to step down. If “in your face politics” makes people listen then so be it. If “in your face politics” makes you uncomfortable then step away from the conversation like so many do today. However, you may regret not listening because that person could be saying something worth considering. Even if that person does not change your way of thinking in some way you have received a glimpse into another thought process that might come back to you another time. Excommunicating Dan Laursen from any committee representation just makes our legislature look bad. Is this really how we want to run our state?
