Park County School District 1 has received a clean audit for the 2021-2022 school year and is prepared for a new calendar year.
During its meeting Dec. 13, all board officers were reelected with new trustees Dustin Paul and Beau Fulton also in attendance for their first meeting as board trustees.
Clean audit
Director Cindy Kretzer and senior accountant Morgan Jones of Porter, Muirhead, Cornia and Howard appeared virtually to present the audit findings to the board. Kretzer began the presentation by thanking Superintendent Jay Curtis, executive administrative assistant Joyce Ruward, business services coordinator Mary Jo Lewis, accountant Molly Cummings and accountant Suzi Rivas.
“These are people behind the scenes that really do rock. They’re awesome and hold all the values and protocol and policies that you guys have established throughout the years and they do it fabulously,” Kretzer said. “Kudos and thank you for always being helpful and providing us with anything that we need.”
Kretzer explained that the audit opinion is the most important aspect of the report. Powell received a clean audit which means that the organization’s finances are presented fairly in “all material respects.”
Kretzer clarified that as auditors they do not analyze every single transaction in a year but take a sample that they deem “more risky.”
Board leadership
Board officers for 2023 were also elected during the board meeting. All current board officers were reelected. Kim Dillivan will continue as board chairman with Trace Paul serving as vice chairman. Lillian Brazelton will serve as clerk and Tracey Morris will serve as treasurer.
The board also:
* Accepted donations
* Accepted the audit report
* Appointed Mike Heny as an at-large representative to the Powell Recreation District’s Board of Directors and approved the re-appointment of Danny Shorb and Steve Lensegrav.
* Unanimously approved an unpaid leave of absence for a certified staff member for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10.
