Dear Editor:
The New Year is in full swing for Backpack Blessings of Powell. Our major fundraiser in 2021, a Virtual Pie Sale, was a huge success for the second year in a row! It must be true that everyone loves pie … even virtual pie. No baking, no calories.
Through the generosity of the Powell residents, businesses, churches and organizations, we are able to buy food for about four months. Currently we have 90-plus Powell elementary children in the Backpack Blessings program from the three elementary schools. Remembering that it costs about $8 to fill a backpack with six meals for the weekend (two dinners, two lunches, two breakfasts plus two snacks and drinks), no donation is ever too small. It’s the dollar amounts added together that feed the children.
A huge amount of food is purchased locally, and we are grateful to be able to work with local businesses. Some foods are a little harder to purchase right now and our “shoppers” are doing a great job making substitutions but still keeping in mind that we provide healthy foods.
The Backpack Blessings of Powell program is a 501(c)(3) organization run by a few dedicated individuals. All monies donated are used to buy food. To date we have no expenses other than a P.O. Box and a few office supplies. Donations can be mailed to Backpack Blessings of Powell, P.O. Box 1, Powell, WY 82435.
With our sincerest thanks,
Marybeth Richardson
