Annual event will go onThe Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce's decision to discontinue its association with the annual Wings ‘N' Wheels event was announced this week. One of the most well-attended events on the yearly calendar, Wings 'N' Wheels draws pilots, car aficionados and spectators from around the area. The chamber has, along with the Wings 'N' Wheels Committee and airport personnel, funded and put in countless hours of work over the years to make the event a success. But continued discontent over finances between the chamber and the airport boiled to the surface, and last year's snafu with Federal Aviation Administration paperwork may have been the icing on the cake. But Wings ‘N' Wheels will go on — thanks to several people who see the importance of continuing what many consider Powell's highlight event.Airport board president Bill Keil, along with community members Mike Harker and Mike Martin, has stepped forward to put on the event. Along with their commitment of personal funds, they can look forward to months of hard work — soliciting money from the Park County Travel Council and other sponsors, not to mention organizing the event itself. As the organization with the dual-pronged task of bettering the business community and bringing people to Powell, it's a disappointment that the chamber won't be involved.
