Piranhas summer season heats up

Three head to state finals

Posted

Entering July, the Powell Piranhas continued to compete in the rapidly passing summer swimming season, taking seven swimmers to Buffalo for the Freedom Meet on July 1 and 2.

Kaitlin Diver led the way for Powell, earning two first-place finishes in both the 200-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle.

Her times of 2:42.18 and 5:44.85 met the qualifying standard for the Wyoming State Summer Swimming Championships to be held this upcoming weekend in Gillette.

Diver placed among the top five finishers in all eight of her events, also earning a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 50-meter freestyle. Diver met qualifying standards in five of those events.

Aubree Kraft was the other Piranha to earn a first place finish, winning the 200-meter freestyle in a qualifying time of 3:32.45.

Kraft placed in the top six for all of her events, including a second-place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke and a qualifying time in the 100-meter freestyle.

Addy Powell placed in the top six for all five of her events, including a second-place place finish in both the 200-meter backstroke and the 100-meter backstroke. Powell earned qualifying times in the 100-meter backstroke and the 50-meter freestyle.

Zaiden Powell placed in the top eight for all of his events, including a third-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke.

Kobus Diver placed in the top 10 for all of his races, including three third-place finishes and qualifying times in seven of his eight races.

Baylee Kraft and Sam Young were the other two competitors, each earning a top 10 finish and finishing in the top 20 for all of their races.

The Piranhas will now head to the Wyoming State Summer Swimming Championships this weekend, but not all of the qualifiers will go.

Due to the scheduling of the event this year, only three of the 14 qualified Piranhas will head to Gillette. Those will be both of the Divers and Aubree Kraft.
