PHS swimming competes in Buffalo invite

Final home meet tonight

Venturing over the Bighorn Mountains on Saturday the Powell Panther girls’ swim team got the chance to compete against a majority of the 3A North teams, in addition to 4A Sheridan, at the Buffalo Invitational.

Powell once again was led by Kaitlin Diver, who won the 200 free in a time of 2 minutes, 9.48 seconds, while placing second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:07.22.

The next highest Panther placer was Kumora Snell, who finished seventh in the 100 back (1:20.34), just ahead of Brooke Brown who was eighth (1:22.37) and Charlotte Beeton in ninth (1:22.64).

Other top 10 placers included Anika Anderson taking seventh in the 200 IM (2:55.13), Samantha Young taking ninth in the 100 fly (1:30.15) and 10th in the 500 free (7:09.25), and Beeton finishing 10th in the 100 fly (1:34.9).

Powell showed improvements but finished in sixth place with 121 points just ahead of Newcastle which took seventh with 105 points.

Sheridan won the meet with 312 points, outpacing Cody which was second with 288 points.

Douglas was well behind in third with 160 points, Worland was fourth with 153 points and Buffalo was fifth with 151 points.

The Panthers will return home for the second and final time this season with a home meet at 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Powell Aquatic Center.

That meet will be a triangular between the Panthers alongside Cody and Worland.

Powell goes on the road Friday for an evening dual against Worland in the final meet of the regular season.

The Panthers will then begin the postseason next week with their conference meet in Newcastle.
