PHS swim camps to close out July

The competitive summer swimming season is coming to a close, but the summer camps are just beginning for the PHS girls’ swim team.

Over the next two weeks, the Powell Aquatic Center (PAC) is hosting two summer camps for the Panther girls.

The first session of camps will be from July 18-22 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The second session will be the following week, July 25-29, at the same time.

PHS girls’ swim coach Bob Smartt said his team will be using the camp to focus on stroke mechanics, as the start of the girls’ swim season is rapidly approaching – in just under a month.

Smartt said registration is through the PAC, and anybody who is unable to make half of the sessions due to other commitments, can talk to Tanya Bonner at the PAC about paying only half of the fee.

Following the first week of swimming camp, there will also be a diving camp from July 26-29.

Sessions for that camp will be 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Friday camp will only be a morning session of 7 a.m. until 9 a.m.

Smartt said he’s hoping to have Kevin Sage, one of the top diving coaches in Colorado, at the dive camp to help give instruction.

He said partial or full scholarships are available for any PHS girls’ swimmer who needs financial assistance to attend a camp.
