Eight schools from around the state converged on Powell for spring golf at the Powell Golf Club on Friday — with the Powell Panthers placing third with a score of 346 in a strong field.

Leading the way for Powell was Trey Scott, who finished with his second straight 82.

“He is getting better each week and as his short game and putting catch up with the rest of his game he will be knocking on the door of something in the 70’s,” coach Troy Hildebrand said.

Jackson Hill was second for the Panthers, finishing with an 84.

Hildebrand said Hill is like Scott and continues to see areas where he can improve and is expected to continue improving over the final two weeks of the season.

Seth Siebert was third on the team for Powell, finishing with an 89.

“Seth put together a very solid round in the final home tournament of his career,” Hildebrand said. “Seth has been a valuable part of our team and it was great to see him break 90.”

Andrew Jones was fourth on the team, finishing with a 91. Hildebrand said he had a 40 on the front side but saw difficulties with the trees and had a 51 on the other half but Hildebrand said Jones’ confidence is growing each week.

Trey Peterson rounded out the top five for the Panthers, finishing with a 110 in the third tournament round of his career.

Cole Young finished with a 120, playing in his second tournament round ever.

“This was Cole’s second tournament round and he improved by 22 strokes over his effort at home last fall,” Hildebrand said. “Cole seems to be improving in all areas of his game this spring.”

Jace Harris finished with a 122 and Julian Frost finished with a 124 — both golfers were competing in their first tournament round ever for the Panthers.

Hildebrand said they both have had some struggles but are working hard to improve in the short amount of time the Panthers have in the spring.

Riverton won the boys title behind a Powell Golf Club competitive course record from Parker Paxton, who tied the existing course record overall of 61. He was the only golfer under 80 for the boys.

The Worland girls won the girls team title but Erica Cook of Lovell shot a 74 and was the only round under 95 for the girls.

Powell has two more rounds remaining this spring season, starting with a trip to Cody at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5, at the Olive Glenn Golf Club.

The season concludes next week with a trip next Friday, May 12, to Lander.
