Dear editor:
My family has been warmly touched by Pastor Donna Putney’s words about gratitude in her recent Powell Tribune column. I truly appreciate her admonition that we pray. Her light shines forth from her heartfelt message about all the precious people in our great community who daily pause to thank the heavenly father for all they have.
This special column about the meaning of Thanksgiving takes me back to the wise words of Thomas S. Monson when he said, “To express gratitude is gracious and honorable, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live with gratitude ever in our hearts is to touch heaven.” (“The Divine Gift of Gratitude,” Oct. 2010 General Conference)
President Monson took time to remind us about the great love of the Savior Jesus Christ, plus he related stories about individuals who, when they had few material possessions for which to be thankful, still expressed their gratitude for what important things they did have.
I am so very thankful for people like Pastor Putney. She skillfully encouraged us to be more selfless and joyful by being thankful for some really meaningful things in life.
I too am also thankful for my faith in God, my family, and the many people who really care about others while serving in good causes and being so very generous with their time and resources.
