It's budget season in Park County, the months-long stretch that began with county departments hashing out a tentative budget, and continued May 7 with the start of a series of organizations across the county asking county commissioners for funding. On Tuesday (today) commissioners were scheduled to hear a number of additional requests for funding.
"We're still beginning to work through our budget and see where we'll be this year," Chair Dossie Overfield said after the first such request.
There were nine funding requests May 7 from organizations including the Youth Clubs of Park County, Powell Senior Citizens Center, Crisis Intervention Services and the Moyer Animal Shelter in Powell.
The commissioners listen to the requests and then make a decision after all requests have been submitted as to how to divvy up the remaining available funds.
There are a lot of funds already spoken for.
Commissioners will sift through the budget prior to adoption this summer to determine which of those expenditures to keep or adjust, and how to pay for the overage that remains, if any.
Last year’s budget was approved July 25 and included $33 million in general fund expenditures, $28 million in revenue and more than $4 million in carryover funds to cover expenses.
