Panthers win final home meet

Add additional state qualifier

It was a proper senior sendoff on Tuesday night, as the Powell Panther swim and dive team defeated Cody and Worland in a triangular during the final home meet of the 2022-23 season.

Powell was powered by its seniors, with Kobus Diver winning the 500 free (5:21.92), Rui Parker winning the 50 free (24.26) and Aidan Cannizzaro winning the 100 back (1:04.4) as the only events the Panthers won.

Hugh Carpenter, a freshman, was the newest addition to the qualifying list for the state meet in three weeks’ time, qualifying in the 100 fly (1:06.19) and the 100 free (57.41) as the leadoff leg for the Panthers’ 400 free relay.

“Hugh was one of our next expected qualifiers and it was great to see that happen,” coach Stephanie Warren said. “That brings us down to a few more heading into the weekend going to Gillette.”

Carpenter’s qualification brings the total number of Panthers qualified to 15 for the state meet in Gillette next month.

Powell now heads to Gillette on Friday and Saturday, taking part in an invitational that serves as a preview for the state meet between 3A and 4A teams.

“We are looking for some great things heading to Gillette, then we will look to taper some of those non-qualifiers heading into conference,” Warren said.

The Gillette meet will be the final regular season meet for Powell, before heading to the conference meet in Worland next weekend.
