Myrick's pair of top-three finishes highlights Track meet for PHSSenior Rustin Myrick ran to a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles and added a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles to highlight a strong appearance by the Powell Panthers at the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper. Myrick was one of nine members of the Panthers' program to qualify for the elite state-wide invitational. The senior had also qualified to participate in the high jump, but opted to forego participating in the event due to the compacted nature of the meet schedule. Myrick ran a time of 41.06 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing roughly half a second in back of Sheridan's Brandon Forester. His time of 15.46 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles put him in a photo-finish with Cody's Brady Gulde and Campell County's Steve Turpin. The trio finished within four-hundredths of a second of each other with Gulde edging Myrick for runner-up honors.Patrick and Kyle Sullivan each added fifth-place finishes at the WTC. Patrick ran a time of 53.02 seconds in an event won by Laramie's Alex Walker in a time of 50.82 seconds. Kyle cleared 5'10” in the high jump to finish at the head of the pack among those eliminated at that height. Desiree Murray and Stephanie Paul shared honors for the best finish by a member of the Powell High School girls track team at this year's Classic. Paul ran to a sixth-place time of 1:04.13 in the 400 meters. Murray matched her finish moments later in the 800 with a time of 2:34.77 as she held off a pack of runners over the final meters to also finish sixth. Alyssa Rodriguez ran alongside Paul in the girls' 400 meters, finishing eighth in a time of 1:06.42. Drew Magill earned a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet. Matt McArthur logged a toss of 47'5.25” in the shot put to finish seventh in a talent-laden field that saw five competitors record tosses beyond 50 feet. Dallas Robirds wrapped up Powell's entries at this year's Classic, placing ninth in the boys' 800 with a time of 2:06.21. “Matt's shot put got him pre-qualified for state and was almost a two-foot improvement,” said Powell High School track coach Scott Smith. “I thought all the kids at the Classic competed very well. Dallas and Desiree's performances in the 800 were both personal bests by large amounts.”The Classic participants will return to action with the rest of the Panthers' track team on Tuesday at the Greybull Relays. Powell also competes at Cody on Friday in a 1 p.m. meet. The Cody meet is a departure from the published spring schedule and replaces the Panthers' meet in Gillette.
