PAC Triathlon beats rainy weekend weather

Super athletes from as far away as Glenrock and Montana converged on Powell on Saturday, beating the rainy weather to compete in the 11th Annual Powell Aquatic Center (PAC) Triathlon.

The triathlon was composed of different competing divisions in three different events: 500 meter swim, 15.5 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run.

“We were lucky enough to have the weather hold out for us for the most part,” said Tanya Bonner, PAC co-director. “There was a light drizzle as the runners started their 5 kilometer run. Still very much enjoyed by all who attended.”

Finishing with the fastest time on the day for the women’s side was Jen Robertus, who was the victor in the 46-49 women’s division with a time of 1:18.41.

Finishing second in the division was Jayme Wilson who had a time of 2:15.09.

The second fastest time on the day was Tracy McCann in the women’s 50- to 59-year-old division, finishing with a time of 1:30.23; Cindy Phillips placed second in the division with a time of 1:35, and Stephanie Diver finished third with a time of 2:07.43.

Lauren Williams won the 36- to 40-year-old division with the third fastest time of 1:33.05 and Bridget Williams placed second in the division with a time of 1:37.21.

Kristin Thompson won the 51-45 division with a time of 1:43.28 and Anna O’Donnell placed second in the division with a time of 1:47.03.

In the 60-plus division Margaret McAree won with a time of 1:43.55. In the 20 and under division Kaitlin Diver won with a time of 2:01.01.

The fastest time overall on the men’s side was Ladell Merritt in the 46- to 50-year-old division with a time of 1:11.52.

The next fastest time came from Jaden Koon in the 20 and under division, finishing with a time of 1:13.53. Daniel Merritt placed second in the division with a time of 1:17.53.

Arthur Thompson won the 41-45 division with a time of 1:16.07. Justin Robertus finished behind Thompson in the division with a time of 1:19.

Dan Lavy won the 20-30 division with a time of 1:19.16; Colby Minert placed just behind him with a time of 1:26.44.

Adam Sutcliffe won the 66-70 division with a time of 1:21.45; Jim Thomas-DeJongh finished second in the division with a time of 1:27.48, and John Housel finished third with a time of 1:38.48.

“Thank you Tanya [Bonner] for another successful challenge to my ego,” Housel said. “You and your staff and volunteers succeeded in putting it in its proper place.”

Juan Tennant won the 51-59 division with a time of 1:36.34 and Erik Olson placed behind him with a time of 1:42.02.

In the co-ed team division, the team of Kaycee Laughery and Bo Laughery won with a time of 1:37.37.

The men’s team of Fred Brandon and Dirk Cozzens won with a time of 1:41.12.
