December meeting schedule includes hunting, outdoor recreation issues

Posted

Three important outdoors meetings seeking public input are scheduled for early December.

Park County Outdoor Recreation Collaborative

The group is looking for public comment on the types of uses people would like to see on a large tract of Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation land that is currently inaccessible. The types of uses they are seeking comment on could be motorized and/or non-motorized.

“Specifically, we are seeking public input about OHV, side-by-side, equine, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, or other uses of the land that currently lacks access,” said steering committee member Rebekah Burns.

A proposal replacing a bridge over the Heart Mountain Irrigation canal at Lane 17 is currently in the discovery phase. The group is looking into multiple issues to be discussed at the meeting held at Northwest College Center for Training and Development on Dec. 7, 5-7 p.m.

Park County experiences high rates of visitation with diverse recreation opportunities, making it an ideal location for outdoor recreation collaboration.

Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce

The Taskforce is hosting a meeting about proposed changes in the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s preference point system. It will be held Dec. 8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the new Wyoming Game and Fish Department Cody Region offices at 2 Tilden Trail in Cody. The meeting will kick off with a tour of the new building and the presentation will begin at 6 p.m.

The Taskforce’s charge is to study top-priority wildlife policy issues facing the state related to the allocation of hunting opportunities, sportsperson access and to make recommendations regarding solutions to these issues. Following multiple discussions over several meetings, the Taskforce voted to recommend a substantial change to the manner in which bighorn sheep and moose licenses are issued for both residents and nonresidents specific to the use of preference points.

Wyoming Game and Fish Department

Game and Fish will hold a public information gathering meeting in Cody to discuss Chapter 3, black bear hunting seasons. Black bear hunting seasons are reviewed on a three-year basis.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Cody Regional Office. During the meeting, wildlife managers will present hunting season proposals for local hunt areas.

A full listing of proposed changes to black bear hunting seasons is available at wgfd.wyo.gov. Comments on the proposed regulation can be made online, submitted in writing at the public meeting, or by mailing: WGFD, Regulations, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper, WY, 82604.

The public comment period for Chapter 3 closes at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14. All comments received during the comment period will be presented to the Game and Fish Commission prior to their Jan. 11-12, 2023 meeting in Cheyenne.
