Obama family to trek to Yellowstone saturday

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle and the first kids, Sasha and Malia, will be visiting Yellowstone National Park Saturday, although the scoop on his park plans remained sketchy at press time.

“The details are pretty thin at this point,” said Adam Abrams, White House spokesman.

Abrams said Monday that he was not sure if the president would deliver any speeches while in Yellowstone.

But the Associated Press reported last week that the president will conduct some town hall meetings in the region to address health care.

It's a family vacation, Abrams said.

Obama and family will be in Bozeman, Mont., Aug. 14 and Yellowstone, Aug. 15. They will spend the night in Grand Junction, Colo. Then it is off to Phoenix, Ariz., and the Grand Canyon Aug. 16.

While on his Western swing, Obama is to address the convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, being held in Phoenix. According to the Associated Press, it's a summertime tradition for presidents.

It is the last of the fee-free weekends in the national parks and White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs told the Associated Press the trip is meant to encourage folks to visit America's national parks.

For travel between the states, the Obama family will likely hop on board Air Force One.

Although Abrams rides on press aircraft when he is a part of the presidential entourage, he said Air Force One is mighty deluxe.

“He flies in style,” Abrams said of his commander-in-chief boss.
