The NWC Trapper Bonanza Golf Tournament, the annual fundraising event for the Northwest College Booster Club, is slated for Saturday, May 30.The tournament takes place at 10 a.m. at the Powell Golf Club. This year, the winning foursome will receive four tickets to the Colorado Rockies Game on June 20, and two hotel rooms in Denver that night. Other highlights of this year's tournament include a 50-50 hole in which golfers can donate $5 on the chance of making $10. Golfers who hit their golf balls into the circle around the hole win $10; those who don't win donate their $5.In addition, the Trapper Bonanza Chip Off contest awards $500 to the golfer who chips his or her golf ball closest to the designated practice hole from the driving range. If there is a tie, the winners share the $500 prize.A barbecue follows the tournament and is included in the tournament fee of $75 per player. During the barbecue, each of the Northwest College athletic coaches will speak and give an update on recruiting for the 2009-10 school year.“This is not just playing in a golf tournament,” said Toby Bonner, NWC Trapper Booster Club treasurer. “It's also a time to purchase 2009-10 Trapper Booster Club memberships and a chance to meet NWC athletic coaches.”Bonner said he hopes the event will raise at least $10,000 to support Northwest College athletics. “This is the No. 1 fundraiser event the Trapper Booster Club has all year long,” he said. Since the tournament takes place in Powell this year, the booster club is providing a bus to transport Cody golfers. The bus leaves the Cody Chamber of Commerce at 8 a.m. Saturday and returns after the event ends in the late afternoon. “We want to do that so if guys want to come over and participate in the tournament and enjoy a little cheer, they've got a safe ride home,” Bonner said. The NWC Trapper Booster Club's mission is to support Northwest College athletics and athletic students. It helps pay for uniforms and travel for students, and recruiting trips for coaches. The club's board recently started the Trapper Booster Club Endowment, and the board hopes it eventually will fund scholarships each year for NWC volleyball, wrestling and men's and women's basketball.
