Middle school girls fall short in Cody

Posted

A poor weather forecast for Saturday forced the Powell Middle School girls’ track team to move its competition up last week, as seventh and eighth grade teams combined to compete in a dual against Cody. The Cubs found success in several events but came up short against Cody, as they lost the dual 305 to 187.

Event winners for the Cubs included Audrey Johnson, who swept the middle distance races. She won the 400 meters in a time of 1:05.06 and the 800 meters with a time of 2:48.09. Anai Torres swept the throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 3 inches, and the discus with a throw of 88 feet, 1 inch. Hali Hancock won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 7 inches.

The Cubs found success overall in the throwing events, as they placed three of the top four athletes in both event fields.

The invitational in Cody was rescheduled for April 27, but the Cubs were unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.

The Cubs will make the short trip to Lovell on Saturday for their next opportunity to compete, as their season quickly comes to an end in two weeks.
