Library launches new StoryWalk with Winter Tea Party

Posted

Powell community members are invited to revel in the warmth of tea, hot cocoa, snacks, and the joy of reading on Friday, Dec. 1, as Park County Libraries unveils its new StoryWalk at Homesteader Park. The grand opening, which is being presented as a Winter Tea Party, will run from 1-3 p.m.

The StoryWalk features 18 signposts that have been installed along the sidewalk behind the park’s rest area. Book pages are displayed on each post, allowing visitors to read a story as they walk from sign-to-sign.

The inaugural tale will be the children’s book “Daddy Lion’s Tea Party,” written by Mark Sperring and purchased by the Friends of the Powell Library. The book — which features a father lion’s ill-fated attempt to host a genteel tea party for his cubs — inspired the theme for the Dec. 1 grand opening. Things will start off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that library officials say will underscore “the community’s commitment to fostering literacy, imagination, and a love for literature.”

Funding for the StoryWalk came from the Park County Library Foundation, with Powell City Council members happily endorsing the location in September.

“We are genuinely thrilled about this project,” said Powell Library Branch Manager Roseanne Spiering. “It’s an excellent way to enhance the library’s visibility in the community and foster a love for reading among families.”
