As the Park County Library Board awaits information on a federal grant that could provide a large chunk of funding for a Powell Library expansion/renovation, people interested in the project will have a chance to see the plans at a weekend event.
The Friends of the Powell Library will be hosting a Live Auction and Carnival from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday as a fundraiser for the new Powell Library. Food and carnival games will be available for the whole family and at noon the live auction will start. The architect design boards for the new Powell Library will also be on display for all to see.
Library district director Karen Horner said the designs shown are the “ultimate, everything we want.”
The grant they’re eying, which will come through the state from federal ARPA funds, is expected to be $12-$13 million, but she said if they receive a smaller amount they can adjust the design.
“It’s definitely a positive thing, a grant turns it from a 20-year project to maybe two years,” she said. “The design is great. Of course everything changes once you get blueprints, plans change. But we’re excited about the possibility of being able to deliver a new library in Powell. If we get that grant, we’ll do it.”
