Launch party for local author’s tale of adventure

Clark author Cathy Ringler will launch “Miya’s Mountain” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the Cody Public Library. In this coming-of-age novel, 15-year-old Miya Skippingbird strives to overcome a deep dark secret in order to regain the trust of her parents.

After her father agrees to give her one last opportunity, Miya spends weeks preparing to guide a client and his son on a pack trip to fish in the high mountains. Miya is ready for anything — except a rockslide and a life-or-death situation. Only Miya knows the way out, but first she must face her fear and overcome her anxiety, worry and paralyzing fear of heights.

Melissa Cook, author of “The Last Frontier” states, “‘Miya’s Mountain’ is a gripping tale of courage and adventure. Miya navigates her teenage years with fearless bravery and self-discovery.”

“Ringler takes readers on a journey through the pristine Beartooth Mountains alongside Miya Skippingbird,” writes Kathy Bjornestead, past president of Wyoming Writers. “With empowering characters and heartfelt narratives, Cathy's book inspires young readers to believe in themselves and embrace life's challenges.”

Ringler began spinning tales to her daughters as they rode horses together. She is a retired teacher who taught at both Clark and Westside schools. Ringler discovered early in her career that stories were a way to educate, motivate and teach students. “In this day of digital isolation stories connect us while giving us valuable insights into our lives,” Ringler states.

Currently, she teaches writing workshops and gives author talks at area schools as well as speaking at Homeschool Hour at both the Cody and Powell libraries. Ringler will facilitate the YA writing group for the Powell Library Summer Reading Program and will present stories at the Cody Library in July. She will also be telling stories at Wyoming Discovery Days in Thermopolis this August.

Ringler’s launch party will be free and open to the public in Grizzly Hall at the Cody Library. With each purchase, readers will be invited to personalize their own leather bookmark. Both “Miya’s Mountain” and “Miya’s Dream,” her first book, will be for sale at the program and Ringler will be happy to inscribe them. For more information about the books, visit cathyringler.com.
