Jogging the memory of City of Powell flag

Posted

Dear Editor:

I’m writing because the city has told the Flags of the World website that Powell does not have a city flag: fotw.info/flags/us-wypow.html.

I disagree, because I was on temporary duty to the SAC Radar Bomb Site south of Powell from April through June 1984. I remember the flag being adopted and even bought a small 2” x 3” version of it. Unfortunately after 38 years and four moves, I can no longer find it. As I recall, it used the star and stylized Heart Mountain as a replacement for the bison on the Wyoming state flag.

I’m hoping you might be able to verify my memory. Here is a guess (above) of what it looked like.

I also vaguely recall the star was the approximate physical location of Powell in the state so it may have been a little higher. I received approval from the actual artist (to publish the image). Please credit the art to Masao Okazaki.

Sincerely,
