Historic preservation looks for input on new plan

Posted

The Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is beginning its initial public input sessions for the development of the next 10-year statewide historic preservation plan.

The development of these statewide plans is required by the National Park Service for all SHPOs nationwide. These plans are meant to help guide the actions and set the priorities for historic preservation in Wyoming as a form of policy.

Input from all Wyoming residents is essential to the development of the plan. The existing statewide plan can be found on the website for download as PDF. Physical copies are available for pick up at the Cheyenne or Laramie offices.

The SHPO is collecting public opinion and input through surveys and public workshops. The survey is available online at support.google.com/drive/answer/6283888.

Public workshops will be held in four different communities in July 2024 with the purpose of collecting public opinion on historic preservation in Wyoming. Workshops currently planned will be held in Casper, Sheridan, Gillette and Evanston.

• Casper on Friday, July 12 at the Fort Caspar Multi-Use Room. Session 1 will be held 10 a.m.-noon and Session 2 will be 2-5 p.m.

• Sheridan on Thursday, July 18 at the Sheridan County Public Library. Session 1 will be from 10 a.m.-noon and the evening session will consist of a booth at the Third Thursday Street Festival from 5-9 p.m.

• Gillette on Friday, July 19 at the George Amos Memorial Building. Session 1 will be from 10 a.m. noon and Session 2 will be from 5-7 p.m.

• Evanston on Monday, July 22 at the Evanston Roundhouse Portland Room. Session 1 will be from 10 a.m.-noon and Session 2 will be from 5-7 p.m.
