Powell High School’s class of 2024 will be graduating Sunday, with those walking sporting an average GPA of 3.38 and a total of $8,189,690.96 in scholarships offered.
“Eight million dollars is amazing, truly,” Powell High School Principal Tim Wormald said at Monday’s Senior Recognition Ceremony. “Last year’s number was about $4 million which truly was amazing as well, and this year’s class has doubled that. [They are] just a strong class all the way around.”
The class of over 130 contains some impressive students — many earned scholarships worth tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Among other honors, the class of 2024 also saw four of its students offered the Trustees’ Scholar Award at the University of Wyoming; Kik Hayano, Nolan Reitz, Seeger Wormald and Abigail LeBlanc, who will be attending the Air Force Academy on a scholarship valued around $600,000.
Seeger and Hayano were also semifinalists to be 2024 Presidential Scholars, and Kenneth Bettger and Rhys Bray received $100,000 under the post Sept. 11, GI Bill.
Seeger and Hayano received the Balfour Award, which is selected by staff; the highest award at Powell High School is chosen based on scholarship, loyalty and achievement.
Powell High School’s graduation will take place at 2 p.m. in the Powell High School Gymnasium and grads will be represented by valedictorian Keegan Hicswa and salutatorian Seeger.
Shoshone Learning Center and Park 1 Virtual Academy’s Class boasts 29 students in its graduating class. The schools do not have valedictorians and salutatorians but a handful of students will be speaking at their ceremony.
