Dear editor:
After reading an article (in another publication) filled with inaccuracies and misinformation, it is apparent that many people who live in this community need this information, so I felt obligated to provide it.
In Park County, Wyoming there is a Republican Party Central Committee. These people are selected by precinct in the Primary (not the General Election.) As such, only registered Republicans may vote for them (no one else.) This organization is governed by its local and state bylaws as per State Statute Title 22, Chapter 4-103. In the past, some have run for a position on this committee and only participated at one or two meetings in the two year period of monthly meetings. It was decided in 2022 to better define the term “resignation” and “inability to act” as per the Bylaws. Briefly, it states that a member may telephone, email, fax, US mail or send by way of a proxy (which is provided monthly with the agenda to each member) their notice of absence for a meeting so as not to be considered ‘unexcused absent.’ Since we live in an age of mass communication, it was felt by the committee that there was no excuse for not notifying the executive committee or the PCGOP secretary that one would not be attending the regular scheduled monthly meeting — regardless of reason. (If your employer found that you had not shown up for work with no call nor notice, do you think that they might make the assumption that you had quit your job? In this case, there is a 90 day window; I know of no employer who would hold open a position to an employee who did not notify why they were absent for 90 days concurrent) The bylaws for the County Precinct Committee may be amended by two thirds of voting members present at any regularly called business meeting with a seven day notice as per County Bylaws Article V, 2.a; State Bylaws Article III, Sec 3 Powers and the WY SS 22- 4-119. They may also be amended at the County Convention, which is coming up March 2, 2024.
We are a Constitutional Republic, which means that no one is above the law. To maintain our government we MUST participate. If you are one of the 44% of eligible Wyoming citizens who have NOT registered to vote, I do encourage you to do so. There is no reason for you to blame anyone but yourself for not standing up and being counted.
