The Powell Middle School girls’ track team wrapped up its season officially in Lander at the Best of the Best meet on Tuesday, May 9 — where the seventh and eighth grade girls achieved success against the best middle schoolers in Wyoming.
Leading the way for the conference champion Cub seventh grade team was Abigail Visocky, who had the only individual victory on the day in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet.
Visocky was also part of the winning 4x100 relay team — where she along with Addy Brown, Autumn Kidd and Kindyle Floy won with a time of 56.01.
Floy had a strong day in the sprints as well, placing second in the 200 meters (28.22) and fifth in the 100 meters (13.85).
Sam Edgell and Macie Velasco finished in fourth place in their respective events, where Velasco placed in the 1600 meters (6:10.94) and Edgell placed in the shot put (26-8).
On the eighth grade side, Karee Cooley was the lone Cub to get a victory — winning the 1600 meters in a time of 5:45.8, just ahead of Eleasah Horsley in second (5:51.14).
Leah Graham was the other individual runner up for the Cubs, taking second in the discus with a throw of 95-5.
The 4x400 relay of Ashlee Jacobsen, Horsley, Montana Mixon and Cooley finished in second with a time of 4:45.27.
Horsley also had a fourth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.07.
Overall the seventh grade team finished with 11 top eight finishes, and the eighth grade team finished with nine.
No team scores were kept during the meet.
