Dear editor:
A vexing issue in elements of Wyoming’s media and establishment elites is their propensity to characterize/mischaracterize political groups. Case in point is characterizing the Wyoming Freedom Caucus as: ‘a contingency of far-right Wyoming Republicans’ as one statewide media outlet put it.
It is far too easy to misapply labels in order to carry water for an agenda. So instead of relying upon a media’s or establishment elite’s characterization-mischaracterization, let us look at the issues which Freedom Caucus (Wyoming and nationally) believe in and you can decide for yourself:
• A small/smaller government;
• A decrease in federal spending (FYI, we are running a $2 trillion annual deficit);
• Opposes adding to the national debt which (as a % of GDP) is at the same levels when we came out of World War II;
• Opposes the use of Continuing Resolutions (CRs) for budgets which kicks the can down the road and maintains Nancy Pelosi’s high spending levels;
• Controlling the national borders;
• Opposes use of taxpayer funds to support abortion;
• Supports strong family values;
• Protects individual freedoms and liberties as outlined in the U.S. and Wyoming Constitutions;
• Ban on crossover voting to ensure fair and secure primary elections; and
• Ban on biological males competing in women’s sports.
These issues are common-sense, what many (if not most) of us were raised to believe in, and still believe in today. Based on the facts, the Freedom Caucus is pretty mainstream — middle of the road. Asserting otherwise, says more about those who make the misleading characterization and what their agenda is all about.
