Expect the unexpected

A few weeks ago I watched it snow here in Powell. I was not expecting it although I should have been, even in late May. After living 35 years in Wyoming I should know by now to expect the unexpected when it comes to the weather. I’ve actually seen it snow every month of the year while living in Park County. That said, you certainly don’t “expect” it during the summer months. This week it is in the 80s. Gotta love this state!

Life can be that way. One minute your life is going along normally, then all of the sudden everything changes in an instant. Whether it’s disappointments, discouragements, bad news, sickness, etc. These are things that often come to us out of the blue. It is the unexpected, and the unexpected is what often throws our life into disarray. When this happens, and it happens to everyone, where do you turn? For the Christ-follower, we turn to God for peace, strength and wisdom while navigating these unexpected events.

In I Peter 5:12, the Apostle Peter says, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” Jesus said in John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

When a person turns to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the promise is not that your life will be free of unexpected difficulties. The promise is he will be with you through the difficulties and that he has already overcome for us. He will see us through those times.

Christian, rejoice today that you have a friend who will never leave you nor forsake you, no matter what you might encounter in this life. Put your trust in Jesus.

Blessings!
