Elizabeth Martin died March 21, 2003.

Mrs. Martin, christened Zera Elizabeth, was the second of five children born to Reginald and Mary Goodwin-Austen on Nov. 17, 1911, in Channing, Texas.

At five years of age she moved to the Elk Basin area where her father worked as a bookkeeper for the oil industry.

She was educated in Powell. At 17, with the knowledge and consent of her family, she eloped with Forrest B. Martin and they were married (as were their friends Walter and Peggy Kagi, at the same time) on Dec. 24, 1928, in Red Lodge, Mont.

Elizabeth and Frosty raised their three children, Forrest Jr., Joyce and Grant on the family farm north of Powell.

Her husband and grandson Mitch Asay preceded her in death.

Her faith, the Presbyterian Church and the people of Powell (especially the north end, in the early days) were very important to Elizabeth and she enjoyed being a part of this community very much.

She will be greatly missed by her family: Forrest and Florene Martin, Joyce and Tom Asay, Grant Martin and Janet Pohl, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made at the Presbyterian Church in Powell.
