Eight area middle school students named outstanding performers at festival

At Northwest College’s 49th annual Showalter Festival on Feb. 3, eight students earned the title of outstanding performer, including two from Powell.

Outstanding performers Hayden Peters and Audrey Schultz are from Powell Middle School. They were joined by Lovell Middle School students Gage Bair and ensemble Charlotte Beeton, Addie Weber and Kyson Crosby. Burlington Middle School student Lucy McNiven and Cody Middle School student Oliver Main were also voted as outstanding performers. A total of 276 students from 14 area schools and studios participated in the annual festival.

Powell Middle School registered 33 students for the festival, of which 25 received a superior rating and six students received a good rating.

Students who earned a superior or good rating at the festival earned a scholarship to this summer’s Yellowstone Music Camp. Solo superior students earned a $175 scholarship and ensemble students earned a $130 scholarship. Solo students who secured a good ranking earned a $130 scholarship or a $100 scholarship if they were part of an ensemble. Outstanding students earned a $175 scholarship and plaque.
