Heading into Easter weekend, Powell’s churches will be holding services and activities March 24-31. Below is service information provided to the Tribune by press time.
St. Barbara’s Catholic Church will hold evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 6 p.m. on Holy Thursday. The Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord will be at 3 p.m. on Good Friday. Easter Vigil will be at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mass will be at 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
Trinity Bible Church will be holding services at its regular times.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be holding services at its regular times.
Grace Point will begin Holy Week at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Palm Sunday with two services featuring “Messiah in the Passover,” which will include a demonstration of the traditional Passover Seder table. Speakers from Chosen People will explain the symbolism within the feast. The community is invited to come view the demonstration.
At 6 p.m. there will also be a Good Friday service with communion. Two services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. will take place on Easter Sunday with a light brunch from 10-10:30 a.m.
First Southern Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. There will be a Bible study at 10 a.m. and a worship service at 11 a.m.
First United Methodist Church will begin its Holy Week celebrations at 11 a.m. with a Palm Sunday worship service; children’s church will be provided during the service. Tenebrae service will be at 7 p.m. on Good Friday in the First United Methodist Church alongside the Union Presbyterian congregation.
Union Presbyterian Church will hold a Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Union Presbyterian Church alongside First United Methodist Church. The congregation will join with First United Methodist Church for a 9 a.m. brunch in the Union Presbyterian Church for Easter Sunday. There will be a children’s Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. and a worship service at 10:30 a.m.
Lovell United Methodist Church will begin Holy Week at 9 a.m. with Palm Sunday worship service. There will also be a 5 p.m. service with communion on Maundy Thursday, a 5 p.m. Tenebrae service on Good Friday and a 9 a.m. worship service on Easter Sunday.
New Life Church will begin Passion Week at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with “Reflective Worship on the Death of Our Savior.” On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. there will be a family night that includes “The Easter Amazing Race.” At 10 a.m. there will be a special Theology Thursday with Pastor Tim Morrow. Good Friday service will be at 6:30 p.m. Easter Sunday services will be at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Glad Tidings Assembly of God will begin Holy Week at 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday with a communion service at 6:30 p.m. There will be an Easter Sunday service at 10:45 a.m.
Faith Community Church will begin Holy Week by joining New Life Church for its Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. There will also be an early Easter Sunday service at 8:30 a.m followed by a later service at 10:15 a.m.
Garland Community Church of God will be having a sunrise gathering at 6:30 a.m. on Easter followed by a normal worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.
