The Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation is nearing the end of its investigation into the Aug. 30 critical incident where a Park County Sheriff’s deputy shot a suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

“DCI is nearing the end of their investigation. Once the investigation is complete it will be submitted to our County Attorney, who will then submit it to a special prosecutor for review,” Executive Assistant Charla Baugher said. “No further information will be released from the Park County Sheriff’s Office until this process is complete.”

The incident in question occurred the afternoon of Aug. 30 when a Park County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on an individual with an active warrant.

The traffic stop led to a pursuit where the suspect exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm toward the deputy.

According to the sheriff’s office release, the deputy had to use lethal force which resulted in the suspect’s death and no injuries on the part of the deputy. The case was then turned over to Wyoming DCI.
