Dano’lope’ Dash slated for June 3 in Powell

12th annual event will feature 1 mile, 5K or 10K run/walk and an obstacle course

The 12th annual Dano’lope’ Dash is Saturday, June 3 at the Park County Fairgrounds in Powell. The popular fundraising event features a 1 mile, 5K, or 10K run/walk, and an obstacle course. There will be in-person and virtual participation available.

“We encourage kids to be physically active and we try to attract more participants with the obstacle course and the low entry fee,” said Alex Aguirre, race director. “The discounted price recognizes our 12th year hosting this great event that is a rite of summer for many.”

The cost of the run/walk/obstacle course is just $12 for all in-person and $20 for virtual participants. All registered participants receive a T-shirt. A free brunch will be served after the races. Registration can be done online at danoyouthcamp.org.

Packet pickup and late registration will be available on June 2, from 5-7 p.m., and June 3, from 7-8 a.m, at the fairgrounds. The run/walk starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.

Proceeds benefit the Dano Youth Camp, a nonprofit outdoor wilderness adventure camp. Jerry and Joyce Ostrom started the Dano Youth Camp in memory of their son Dan, who died in a horse-riding accident in the Crandall area in 1996. The camp is offered free of charge to Park County teenagers from ages 13-16.

There are four camp sessions held each summer, with about 40 campers total. The camp is open to boys and girls, with both genders having two camps each.

“There will be awards for all age divisions, door prizes, breakfast, snacks, and great camaraderie,” according to Aguirre. “We hope folks stick around after the race to socialize and enjoy a tasty brunch.”
