Crossovers mostly Dems to Republican

Changing political party affiliation ahead of the primary election, so-called “crossover voting,” was an act undertaken by 776 registered voters in Park County this year.

That amounted to about 4.4% of registered Park County voters switching parties between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15, 2022. County election officials said the changes in party affiliation were six times higher in 2022 than in the 2018 primary when 131 people changed parties.

The most common change this year, involving 432 voters, was from Democrat to Republican.

Another 306 voters switched from unaffiliated to Republican. Additionally, 13 went from the Libertarian  Party to Republican.

The “crossovers” also went the other direction. Ten switched from Republican to Democrat, and six went from unaffiliated to Democrat.

Going into the primary election, Republicans numbered 14,785 in the county and Democrats 1,117. There were 1,610 registered unaffiliated, 121 Libertarian Party and 49 Constitution Party.
