Creative workshop for retirees starts in January

The Institute for Creative Aging recently announced an eight week program entitled “Explore Your Creativity” to begin in January. The goal of the workshop is to provide participants opportunities to explore and practice communication and creativity through writing and art. Each of the 12 sessions will include creativity exercises in art and experimental letter writing. The workshop will culminate in a program featuring a selection of writings and artwork.

The creativity workshop begins on Jan. 30 and concludes on March 21. The sessions will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Cody Center for the Performing Arts. Citizens age 65 and over are eligible for the free workshop. This is the first offering from the Creative Aging Institute which will offer programs in lifelong learning and creativity in aging now under development.

The artist-teachers for the first series include Lynne Simpson, a professional aging expert and theater artist; Suzanne Bradbeer, a produced and published playwright from New York City with extensive experience in writing workshops; and Cindy Aune, a creative arts educator implementing personal growth programs through the arts.

Those wishing to participate or receive more information may register and/or inquire at the Cody Library or the Cody Senior Center. An orientation meeting will be set for mid-January to inquire further about this creative aging program which is sponsored in part by a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming Legislature.
