COVID-19 on the rise in Park County

Posted

The Wyoming Department of Health reported last Wednesday 11 confirmed and seven probable cases of COVID-19 in Park County over the last week. Park County Public Health Officer Dr. Aaron Billin said in a post that this does not include cases who chose not to be tested and the cases with a positive home test who did not come in for formal testing.

As Covid is transmitted by respiratory droplets, Billin said preventative measures include the following:

1. Stay up-to-date on vaccination, especially if you are in a high-risk group or have contact with those in a high-risk group.

2. Avoid close contact with those who are sick.

3. Stay home when you are sick. I am surprised by the number of symptomatic people who have had a positive home Covid test and still come to the ER and expose others because they want "confirmation". The antigen test you did at home is the same as the antigen test we use at the hospital.

4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (and then dispose of it) when coughing or sneezing.

5. Clean your hands frequently.

6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

7. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill.

When you should seek medical care for Covid:

1. Trouble breathing

2. Persistent pain or pressure in the chest

3. New confusion

4. Inability to wake or stay awake

5. Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone. Pulse oximetry consistently <90% (many have pulse oximeters at home).

If someone is showing any of these signs, call 911 or call ahead to your local emergency facility. Notify them that you are seeking care for someone who has or may have Covid.

This list does not include all possible symptoms. Billin recommends you call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.
