County supports naming airport terminal after Sen. Coe

Park County commissioners are backing an effort to name the Yellowstone Regional Airport terminal after the late state Sen. Hank Coe.

Coe championed Wyoming’s commercial air service throughout his life, including by helping to bring additional flights into the Cody airport. It was part of a distinguished career in public service that included eight years as a county commissioner, followed by 32 years as a lawmaker in the Wyoming Senate.

On Tuesday, the commission unanimously endorsed the idea of naming the terminal after Coe, who died of pancreatic cancer in January at the age of 74.

“When you stop and think about it, Hank Coe, in his role as a commissioner, and as a citizen and as a legislator, has done more for commercial aviation in the state of Wyoming than anyone I know of,” said Commissioner Joe Tilden.

“And especially in Park County,” added Commission Chairman Lee Livingston.

The proposal to rename the terminal emerged after the state Senate rejected a bill that would have named a portion of Wyo. Highway 120 in Coe’s honor.

Commissioners said the Cody City Council will ultimately decide whether to change the terminal’s name.
