CODY — Cody Regional Health has acquired a multi-million dollar, cutting-edge da Vinci Surgical System, made possible through the support of the Cody Regional Health Foundation and community members. This addition signifies a pivotal moment in the advancement of health care services in Cody and the wider Big Horn Basin region, according to a hospital release.

The da Vinci Surgical System is renowned for its precision, reducing surgery time and promoting quicker recovery. It also minimizes the need for pain medication, enhancing patient comfort and reducing the overall health care burden.

“This remarkable acquisition underscores the incredible dedication of our foundation and the immense support of our community members,” said Doug McMillan, CEO of Cody Regional Health. “The da Vinci Surgical System will enable us to provide cutting-edge surgical care while ensuring our patients receive world-class treatment close to home. It will also bolster our efforts to attract top-tier surgeons like Dr. Rebecca Deal, who recently joined our team to perform procedures with the new da Vinci Robot.”

Dr. Deal, incoming general surgeon at Cody Regional Health, emphasized the significance of this acquisition for the surgical team.

“The da Vinci Surgical System is a game-changer for surgeons,” she said. “Its precision and minimally invasive capabilities will enhance our ability to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy. This advanced technology not only benefits our patients by reducing surgery time and promoting quicker recovery but also empowers our surgical team to provide the best possible care.”

Dr. Thomas Etter, a highly regarded surgeon with extensive community experience, has been a staunch advocate for da Vinci Robotics.

“The introduction of the da Vinci Surgical System at Cody Regional Health marks a significant advancement in our surgical capabilities,” he said. “It will enable us to offer patients minimally invasive procedures with enhanced precision. I’m excited to undergo training in da Vinci Robotics this year, and I believe this technology will greatly benefit our patients.”

The system is expected to be operational in April 2024.
